Venous reconstruction techniques can be used to treat acute deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and chronic venous disorders (CVDs). Venous reconstruction may also be considered in other less common clinical scenarios, including venous disruption due to malignancy or trauma, and venous aneurysms. In contemporary vascular surgery practice, most of these conditions are treated with an endovascular approach. Open surgery is reserved for patients who have failed endovascular therapy and whose anatomy is favorable for surgical reconstruction.
