The simplest large eddy simulation of a turbulent field is that produced by the two-point average, and it is intimately related to the two-point difference, basic ingredient of the small-scale turbulence theory, see Sreenivasan and Antonia for a recent review. This simple average is a useful tool to understand some peculiar aspects of LES and the duality between the two-point average and the two-point difference is important as regards the elementary interaction between large and small scales. In this paper the simplest LES is applied to the case of a passive scalar convected by a turbulent velocity field and an equivalent form of the Yaglom inertial law is derived.
