Abdominal wall vascularized composite allotransplantation (AW-VCA) is the most complex option on the reconstructive ladder for abdominal wall reconstruction in patients whose abdomen cannot be closed by applying conventional methods. To date, approximately 40 abdominal wall transplants have been performed to date, all in conjunction with intestinal/multi-visceral organ transplantation. In the following chapter, we present advancements in the field of abdominal wall transplantation, current techniques, and future directions.
