Children and adolescents in migrant and refugee contexts may face significant challenges to their reproductive health, and often without the safety net of family resources and a stable, known health care system. Age-appropriate health information and clinical services need to be available for contraception, safe pregnancy and birth care, prevention and treatment of STIs, and prevention and care for gender-based violence. Pregnancy-related deaths remain a common cause of mortality for girls in migrant and refugee situations and timely, essential obstetric care is important and all morbidity and mortality related to gender-based violence and/or pregnancy and childbirth must be investigated to protect girls and improve clinical services.
