Prognosis refers to prediction of outcomes based on the information we have available connected to a clinical syndrome. This topic is a good opportunity to expand and enrich a discussion of the value of cohort studies, as they are central to examining prognosis. In this chapter, we review sources of bias in studies of prognosis, clinical prediction rules, and the math common to prognosis studies, namely Kaplan–Meier survival curves and hazard ratios. We conclude with tips for teaching these concepts to learners.
