Lymphedema of the arm and/or breast and shoulder impairments are common sequelae of medical and surgical interventions for breast cancer. It is important to identify these impairments early in their progression to improve outcomes with various management options – conservative and surgical. The advancements in imaging technology have helped to improve early diagnosis and surgical interventions. Diagnostic approaches for lymphedema of the arm and breast provide a framework for addressing these pathologies. Without effective diagnosis and treatment, ongoing lymphedema and shoulder impairment can cause chronic, debilitating problems that impede quality of life.
