Women and hemodialysis access: What we still do not know

There exist significant gender-related disparities in the management and outcomes of women with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). These disparities are poorly understood and require additional research to be properly addressed. In this chapter, we will discuss gender-related disparities in ESRD in the following areas: hemodialysis access, patient survival, psychosocial stressors, and access to transplant.
