This chapter provides an overview of culture and parenting, including how parenting practices and styles may be similar or different across cultures as well as how parenting may be related to adolescents' development in similar or different ways across cultures. It then describes key parenting practices during adolescence and how these practices are situated in overall parenting styles that characterize the climate of the parent-adolescent relationship. The chapter describes within-culture variations in parenting practices and styles and emerging issues in the study of parent-adolescent relationships. Finally, the chapter discusses interventions and policies that can support parenting and adolescent development.
