Robert N. Stavins is a leading environmental economist whose research and policy engagement have shaped a generation of environmental policies. His work has been critical to the development and widespread use of market-based approaches to environmental problems, to the non-partisan use of benefit–cost analysis in environmental policy, and most recently for economic-based approaches to climate change. In addition to his scholarship, Rob’s engagement with Congress, the US Environmental Protection Agency, and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change have come to define the Harvard Kennedy School model of policy-engaged scholarship and research-informed engagement.
