While new methods such as those described in this book related to generalized pairwise comparisons (GPC) can be developed theoretically, they should be motivated, derived, and applied in the context of real-world research. That requires real-time access to available clinical trial data. Thus, the idea of having access to previous clinical trial data to develop and test new statistical methods empirically is a critical component of this story. There are of course large volumes of real-world data (e.g., health records) used in research, and the principles of open science could be applied to them; however, the issues and challenges are different for patient-level clinical trial data, which this chapter will focus on.
