SYSZELL: A HOLISTIC APPROACH FOR PROVIDING ANCILLARY SERVICES IN CELLULAR ENERGY SYSTEMS
The shift towards more renewable generation, the decline of thermal power plants and increased demand from electric vehicles and heat pumps challenges the electricity system operation. The SysZell project focuses on ancillary services for frequency stabilization in an altered institutional setup. It builds on the Cellular Energy System concept proposed in the project ZellNetz2050 which co-optimizes power scheduling and transmission in a decentralized manner. This setup mitigates grid overloading and minimizes short-term interventions. However, ancillary service provision has not been addressed so far.In expectation on how network frequency stabilization will change in the future, this projects assesses how the previous works can be extended. This contribution highlights the research project's content, notably analyses of alternatives for procurement of frequency stability services, application of simulations, and designing decision-support tools.
