Clinical practice with older adults suffering from advanced illness presents unique considerations and challenges for psychologists. The growing presence of clinical and counseling psychologists in palliative care settings, as reflected in the emerging specialty of palliative psychology, offers unique opportunities to improve the care and quality of life for older adults. The authors' overarching goal with this chapter is to highlight common diseases seen in older adults at the end of life, the mental health concerns they express, and the role of psychology in their care.
