Intimate Partner Violence in Immigrant Populations
Immigrants represent a growing segment of the United States population that needs special consideration when addressing intimate partner violence (IPV). This chapter highlights the unique experiences of diverse immigrant communities, delineating the theory and risk and protective factors that shape IPV, and promising practices to address these. Important policy, research, and practice implications should be considered to better serve the needs and strengths of immigrant communities at risk of, experiencing, and surviving IPV. This includes ensuring access to culturally and linguistically appropriate services, trauma-informed approaches that consider multiple traumas and experiences shaped by intersectional identities, and coordinated approaches that bridge health, social, and legal needs for this population.
