Transonic Buffet and Stall Flutter Predictions with a Tunable Turbulence Model for AePW-4
This paper presents progress towards the Fourth Aeroelastic PredictionWorkshop (AePW-4) High-Angle Working Group (HAWG) and Buffet Working Group (BWG) by the team from RMIT University in collaboration with ANSYS Inc. The HAWG is concerned with modeling transonic stall flutter, while the BWG with modeling transonic shock buffet. For these complex nonlinear unsteady aerodynamic/aeroelastic problems, preliminary results show that-relative to conventional RANS turbulence models-the tunable Generalized k-ω model can provide superior performance. For the HAWG, there is good agreement with the experimental dataset, however, a study of spatial and temporal convergence is still needed. For the BWG reasonable agreement with experimental data is observed for the two-dimensional airfoil test case, and the authors are now proceeding to model the NASA Common Research Model (CRM).
