High-energy photons from passage of jets through quark-gluon plasma

A novel mechanism for the production of high-energy photons in relativistic heavy ion collisions is presented. Calculations indicate that this mechanism is the leading source of directly produced photons at RHIC in the region p⊥≤6 GeV/c.
