A numerical and experimental study for a beam and rectangular plate with dry friction damping due to slipping at the support boundaries is described. The results of the numerical simulation show that the simpler, more approximate theory of the companion paper, Part 1 [1], very closely predicts the measured vibration response, when slip or slip-stick occurs at the support boundaries. The design of the beam experimental apparatus, the utilization of the associated instrumentation, and the methodology for measuring the dry friction coefficient are also described in this paper. © 1986 Academic Press Inc.
