A system was developed to track the position and curvature of the human coronary arteries during a cardiac cycle using bi-plane angiography. The system uses a time interpolation technique on one image plane to create simultaneous image pairs. The image pairs are then used to reconstruct the three-dimensional (3D) axes of the vessels over the cardiac cycle. From the axes, curvature measurements have been made on a portion of the left anterior descending artery (LAD) at approximately 30 different times during the cardiac cycle. Results show that the changes in curvature over the cardiac cycle vary considerably from point to point.
