A review of the recent advances in methodology and instrumentation applied to room temperature phosphorimetry is presented. The general principles of the method are first discussed, followed by methodology and instrumentation. Characteristic features of room temperature phosphorimetry, and applications to the detection of compounds of clinical, biological and environmental interest are finally dealt with
