The relationship between central R&D (CRD) and the business units (BU) was discussed. Each CRD-BU interface was managed by one person who coordinates the specific BU and the various CRD functions that might interact with it. The negotiation process produces a balance of power between the BU and CRD that was beneficial for innovation.
