In this brief report, fluorescence from adsorbed films of dye-labelled proteins and from dye-impregnated L-B films are modelled using Langmuir adsorption theory and planar thin film optical theory, respectively. Results clearly show a planar approximation of the cylindrical fiber surface is valid for very thin adsorbate layers. Also the results reported here strongly suggest that, at least on an optical scale, the deposited films approximate the quality of those obtained on more conventional flat surfaces. This feature is crucial in the development of fiber optic devices that rely upon interactions with LB modified claddings.
