Case 23-1980: A 34-Year-Old Woman with Pelvic Pain Not Relieved by Hysterectomy and Salpingo-Oophorectomy for Endometriosis

Presentation of Case A 34-year-old nulliparous woman was admitted to the hospital because of right-sided pelvic pain. Twelve years before admission the patient experienced right-sided pelvic pain during ovulation and menstruation; a physician palpated a right ovarian cyst. The pain worsened progressively; 11 years before entry a laparotomy revealed a ruptured right ovarian cyst, and a cystectomy and appendectomy were performed. Subsequently, she had bilateral pelvic pain that was exacerbated during ovulation and menses. Dyspareunia developed and persisted, and the patient observed a recurrent white or yellow vaginal discharge, with pruritus, which was ascribed to yeast infections.
