Described is the methodology of the Room Temperature Phosphorimetry (RTP), a relatively new technique based on the phosphorescence at room temperature of organic compounds adsorbed on various solid substrates including asbestos, silica gel, sodium acetate, and filter paper and providing a simple and sensitive tool for monitoring polynuclear aromatic compounds in fossil fuels and coal conversion products.
