Membrane fouling in crossflow microfiltration of coagulated synthetic raw water has been studied in order to evaluate the influence of aluminium coagulant in the filtration liquid-solid separation. The presence of small colloids leads to a fast fouling of the membrane (Milisic and Ben Aïm, 1986). Such an effect could be avoided if the size and the surface charge of the particles could be modified. Coagulation using Al could be a good way for such parameters to be varied. © 1992.
