A mathematical model that approximates the propagating transmembrane current is developed. The model gives direct evaluation of the cardiac sources and avoids the singularity at the origin of excitation which was the major problem with the previous tanh approximation of the transmembrane potential. This model provides a useful tool in modeling cardiac sources and in evaluating the cardiac electric field.
