A bench test apparatus has been described that can measure the frequency spectra of isolated human larynges and reed sound sources within an artificial larynx. Objective criteria have been stated, whenever possible, by which artificial sound sources may be judged. An assembly has been designed to allow the use of plastic reeds in an artificial larynx. The reed mechanism can easily be removed and cleaned. A means of increasing the efficiency of sound production has been described.
