The field of metamaterials has seen tremendous advancements in the design, modeling, and development of structures with novel ElectroMagnetic (EM) properties. However, nothing had been done to characterize how those EM properties change when a metamaterial structure is transitioned into a relevant environment (i.e. mechanical and thermal loading). This research seeks to understand the linkage between the mechanical loading of these multi-component, inclusion-intensive structures, and their resultant changes in EM performance; thus laying the foundation for the eventual operational use of these novel multifunctional structures.
