Observation of female delinquent gang members in the GUIDE program posed the question of whether there is an emerging female gang subculture among juveniles with an accompanying personality pattern and an inclination toward male oriented activities. Comparison of delinquent female gang and nongang members, on the Jesness Inventory suggested that female gang delinquents seem to have a personality pattern which is distinct from that of other female delinquents. A review of juvenile crime incidence, and female contribution to typically male crimes for the years 1967 to 1974, showed not only a significant increase of crime incidence among females, but also a significant increase by females of typically male crimes.
