
Dispersion polymerizations in carbon dioxide using siloxane-based stabilizers

A commercially available PDMS (poly(dimethylsiloxane)) macronomer has been used to stabilize the dispersion polymerization of MMA (methyl methacrylate) in liquid and supercritical CO2 and of styrene in supercritical CO2. Purification of the obtained PMMA showed that only a fraction of the macromonomer added to the polymerization actually copolymerized.
