Eric returned to academia in 2023 to complete postdoctoral training in the Evolutionary Energetics & Ecology Laboratory. His postdoctoral research primarily focused on the mental and physical health ramifications of physical activity, with a particular emphasis on energy expenditure, among rural pastors. After completing his postdoctoral training in 2025, Eric joined the full-time faculty in the Department of Health, Wellness, and Physical Education. He currently teaches courses related to weight training, exercise physiology, and the role of physical activity in public health.
In addition to his teaching, Eric continues to conduct interdisciplinary research related to health and physical activity in collaboration with the Religion and Social Change Laboratory, the Clergy Health Initiative, and the Evolutionary Energetics & Ecology Laboratory. He also collaborates regularly with the Sports Science, Research and Innovation Division to support the health, wellness, and performance of Duke's Student Athletes.
