Advising & Mentoring

I currently mentor Duke Pratt engineering undergraduates via an Engineering Alumni Association program.

In the spring of 2018,  I coached an undergraduate team for the Atlantic Council's Cyber 9/12 Student Competition at American University. The team had to prepare policy recommendation briefings, written and oral, in the role of National Security Council staff, and in response to Intelligence Reports involving crypto currencies and blockchain affecting national security. Teams were judged by panels of experts in government and industry. Our team, one of 38, in its first competition and the youngest competing, was selected for the second, semi-final round of 22. The final round had 3 teams, all military college based.

As a result of the competition, since the fall of 2018,  I am mentoring a newly formed Duke Cyber Team sponsored by the Duke Program in American Grand Strategy and was a guest lecturer in Oct. 2019.

Between 2009 and 2017,  I mentored one or two, semester-long, Consulting Practicums (EGRMGMT556) in the Master of Engineering Management Program. These Practicums were sponsored by companies such as Cisco, IBM, RTI, Parsons Corp., and Lenovo. The latest Practicum involved a MEM student team performing AI applications market research for a cloud-based, sales enablement, enterprise software company.

In the spring 2016 semester I advised a Master of Engineering Management distance student's Independent Study Project in Software Engineering Management for research in machine learning.
