Selected Presentations & Appearances
This story of location and dislocation presents New York City as the metropole of a globalized world in which the safe, comfortable colonial center and risky post-colonial periphery are no longer separate and distinguishable. This is a cosmopolitan space of cultural mixing, personal encounter and economic transaction, with connections to every continent of the post-colonial diaspora. This is a space of great opportunity but also great uncertainty about boundaries and risks – a dangerous world in which the Western middle-class family, bereft of the patriarchal certainties that once informed it, appears fragile and vulnerable.
