Treatment of chicks with phenobarbitone (PB, 75 x 4 mg/kg body wt) increased the content of cytochrome P-450 whereas beta-naphthoflavone (BNF, 75 x 4 mg/kg body wt) increased the content of cytochrome P-448. Microsomes obtained from PB treated chicks metabolized aminopyrine faster as compared to controls or BNF treated. On the other hand, microsomes obtained from BNF treated chicks metabolized ethoxyresorufin faster as compared to control or PB treated. This study demonstrates the induction of two different isozymes of cytochrome P-450 in chicken liver.
