The role of cellular retinol binding protein (cRBP) in the uptake of retinol by mammary gland (target tissue) was studied in vitro by using purified cRBP from goat mammary gland. The cRBP mediated retinol uptake process was found to be saturable. The serum retinol binding protein (sRBP) was also detected in the mammary gland which participated in the uptake process in vitro.
