Key biomechanical characteristics of the knee joint include the tibiofemoral and patellofemoral articulations, their kinematics, and associated soft-tissue mechanics. Recent data report on alterations in biomechanics of the osteoarthritic knee and differences in biomechanics of various total knee arthroplasty designs. Surgeons will benefit from summaries of recent research on the biomechanics of patients after total knee arthroplasty.
