In this poster, I review vaccine avoidance and how it is typically studied. I then describe how I conducted my dissertation research and present some implications for library and information science. This research, an embedded chronological case study of a vaccine-avoidant mommy blogger, utilized multiple methods to understand why some people view vaccine avoidance as normative and desirable and how they engage with a mainstream world which disagrees. The findings from this research hold important theoretical and practical implications for library and information science, particularly how we study and work with communities we consider stigmatized or vulnerable to problematic information.
