• Extraction from coal ash: Produces a highly heterogeneous liquid feedstock (impurities of Al, Si, Fe, Ca) • REE separations via supported liquid membranes: o 103- to 105-fold selectivity for REEs o preference for heavy REEs • Product purity depends on Fe, Al, Si, Ca in the feedstock.
