Internal-Illumination Photoacoustic Tomography Enhanced by a Graded-scattering Fiber Diffuser

We developed a new low-cost fiber diffuser based on a graded-scattering method and uniform light emission was achieved by performing numerical simulations on several key design parameters. Proof-of-concept studies on phantoms and swine model have demonstrated the deep-imaging capability of internal-illumination photoacoustic tomography.
