Digital technologies are shaping the way in which individuals learn many functions in their daily lives, including how to apply knowledge appropriately to specific situations. The global effort to improve health literacy levels increasingly involves maximizing the use of available technologies that enable individuals to be informed and engaged in their healthcare decisions. Facilitating digital skills among vulnerable populations, such as the elderly, impoverished and rural communities, is imperative to reduce the widening digital divide. Health professions educators can employ a variety of instructional strategies to facilitate the use of digital technologies for the promotion of healthcare teaching and learning.
