Teaching about therapy is the cornerstone of most curricula in evidence-based medicine. In order to address this core topic, we walk through background information and teaching techniques addressing (1) framing a therapy question, (2) assessing the risk of bias in trials of interventions, (3) calculating absolute risk, absolute risk reduction, relative risk, relative risk reduction and number needed to treat, (4) applying results to patients, and (5) communicating results to patients. This chapter contains the core content and teaching tips which will help any health professions program develop a robust teaching series on how to use studies of interventions.
