Good technology is biophilic

The star of science and technology studies and author of How We Became Posthuman and My Mother Was a Computer, it seemed very unlikely that the eminent N. Katherine Hayles would accept to be on The Good Robot. As youüll see from the references to her throughout this collection, sheüs a guiding light to many people working in technology, feminism, and philosophy. Hayles has by her own admission been a feminist for over half a century, and it is very much an integrated part of her worldview. As such, it has informed her groundbreaking work, forging what was at the time the entirely new field of literature and science. Convinced that Unthought, her latest book on consciousness, would be the perfect antidote to dominant ways of thinking about human and machine brains in AI spaces, we were desperate to have her on the podcast. Hayles was one of our first guests, looked very smart, was extremely gracious when we had a major technical mishap, lost Kerry in the podcast vortex, and then panic-emailed her when we thought we had lost her recording. A true star in all senses of the word.
