Supporting Students with Disabilities During COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic changed many things in our world. For nursing students, these changes created chaos, interrupted plans, and slowed progress towards goals. For students with disabilities, these changes additionally disrupted their ways of learning and their lives. These changes both helped and hindered students’ growth, especially those with disabilities. We discussed challenges and barriers that occurred as well as strategies put in place to remedy those challenges. We also discussed some of the benefits students with disabilities experienced. In the midst of worldwide chaos, nursing students continued to be educated, educators quickly stepped up and provided education, and students with disabilities were supported and guided through the challenges in order to not only survive but thrive.
