A 7-year-old boy is brought to your office with abdominal pain and vomiting. You suspect pancreatitis based on abdominal examination, and laboratory results confirm pancreatitis as demonstrated by elevated amylase and lipase. Further history reveals that the patient had 2 similar episodes of pancreatitis 1 year ago with spontaneous resolution. The parents ask you the following questions: What causes repeated episodes of pancreatitis? What investigations should be done to identify the cause of recurrent pancreatitis? What is the follow-up care for a patient with recurrent pancreatitis?.
