Existing literature has largely focused on the amount of experience with scant attention on the variety of prior experience. This paper develops the construct of prior experience variety, and argues that individuals with diverse prior experience not only acquire a broader range of domain-specific knowledge, but also develop greater capabilities for sharing and integrating knowledge across functional boundaries.
