Advances in cardiac surgical techniques and collaboration among subspecialties in cardiac surgery, cardiology, intensive care, and anesthesiology have significantly improved long-term outcomes in children with congenital heart disease. The perioperative management of these complex cardiac defects requires a cohesive specialized team of physicians, nurses, and perfusionists, working together regularly. Pediatric cardiac anesthesia continues to evolve as a subspecialty where a deep understanding of the physiologic impact of cardiac lesions and their palliation is needed.
