Bridging Borders: Equipping Child Psychiatrists in Every Corner to Shape Mental Health Outcomes for Immigrant Latine Youth and Families
Child and adolescent psychiatrists have a vital role in promoting Latine immigrant youth’s mental health impacted by sociopolitical turmoil in the United States. Clinicians learn pragmatic ways to incorporate culturally sensitive care in clinical practice and engage in community initiatives and advocacy work that promote improved mental health outcomes. Presenters share recent sociopolitical changes and their impact on undocumented migrant Latine youth and families’ mental health. Participants identify practical ways to assess and manage the negative mental health effects of societal changes and uncertainty in Latine immigrant youth, explore community engagement opportunities and advocacy tools to promote mental health in Latine immigrant youth and families, and learn strategies to prevent clinician isolation and burnout as they engage in clinical practice and advocacy work.
