Patient recruitment is an important aspect of translational research in all types of studies including retrospective, prospective, and clinical trials. Challenges may include obtaining patient consent, recruiting special populations, and optimizing the recruitment process. Special populations include underrepresented minorities, women, and patients at each end of the age spectrum. Successful patient recruitment requires a multidisciplinary team and a more in-depth understanding of the patient's perspective.
