The reaction between Me3N · BH2CONHC2H5 (1) and anhydrous HCl gas in diethyl ether resulted in the formation of an unprecedented salt, Me3N · BH2C(OH)=N+HC2H5Cl- (2), whose crystal structure unambiguously shows that the amide hydrogen atom is oriented in trans configuration with respect to the hydroxyl group. © 2001 Elsevier Science B.V.
