The epoxidation of a pendant vinyl group, axially oriented at C3 of the pyranoside ring, can be effected with complete diastereofacial selectivity, depending upon whether a free hydroxyl group is located at C2 or C4. © 1986, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. All rights reserved.
