A posteriori probability source localization with array tilt uncertainty
In a previous paper [J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 89, 2280 (1991)], the authors illustrated how estimation theory could be utilized to develop a localization processor that exhibited robust performance in the presence of uncertainty about the acoustic environment. This processor was termed the optimum uncertain field processor (OUFP). In this paper an OUFP is developed that is designed for use in a scenario in which there is uncertainty about the tilt angle of a vertical array. First results are presented that indicate the sensitivity of a matched-field processor to array tilt uncertainty. The uncertain field processor, on the other hand, is shown to be very robust, i.e., the processor is able to accurately locate the acoustic source even when the array tilt angle is not precisely known.
