A liquid crystal on silicon (LCOS) microdisplay driver with frame buffer pixels was discussed. LCOS was fabricated for projection display using AMI 0.5 μm double-poly, triple-level metal CMOS process. It was found that the driver includes frame buffering at the pixel level which optimized optical characteristics for field sequential color operation.
